Americana Women

MusicBox Project, a 501(c)(3)non-profit organization is on a mission! Their charter states they "document and preserve music history" but it's way more than that. "It matters that women musicians (players) are overlooked in the history books. If we don't do something to change this, they'll simply slip into oblivion and the real picture of our American musical landscape will be left incomplete." founders Dyann and Rick Arthur say.

In 2010 they made it their mission to film women playing traditionally based "Roots" music all over America. They recorded 80 oral history interviews and over 1,000 songs in HD video. They traveled 26,000 miles over 7 months in 60 cities across 20 states. While they have a treasure trove of stories, music and video from their efforts, they are still collecting like those early, legendary musicologists John Work and Alan Lomax.

"I didn't know I was going to become a filmmaker too," Dyann conveys, "But, I realized I could help the world see, hear and appreciate these amazing artists the way Rick and I had. This truly engaging film captures the heart of today's traditional American musical landscape through the eyes and ears of women musicians eighteen to ninety-three. From "A to Z" (Appalachian to Zydeco); from kitchens and back porch jams to big festivals, you'll enjoy rollicking "Roots" music at every turn..
