Standing on the Shoulders of Giants: Dubois and Fauré
The singers of the Schola Cantorum of Holy Family present the choral music of Théodore Dubois and Gabriel Fauré on the 100th anniversary of their deaths.

Fauré was a gifted composer, organist, pianist, and teacher. It is recorded that when he was a boy, Fauré was approached by an old blind woman who noticed his exceptional talent and advised his father to foster it. In 1853 Simon-Lucien Dufaur de Saubiac of the National Assembly also advised Fauré's father to send him to the School of Classical and Religious Music. Fauré's father agreed and sent his son to Paris in October 1854 at the age of nine. The rest is history.

Dubois' family was not connected with music since his father was a basket maker and his grandfather was a schoolmaster. His mother spent all her time raising Dubois. Regardless, Dubois excelled in playing the organ, piano, and music composition for the Catholic Mass and opera. In 1861, Dubois won the Prix de Rome, one of the most prestigious prizes for arts students awarded by the French government.

This concert is a fundraiser for our choirs to go to Rome in 2025 for the First St. Cecilia Choral Competition.

Schola performers: Audrey Yoder, Farrah Mechael, Ruth Gomez, Dalia Rodriguez, Beth Burke, Nancy Niles, Stephen Cannon, Joel Bautista, Jared Jones, Tom Makiling: Directed by Dr. Adan Fernandez
