PATOIS 2024: No Cop Academy - Screening and Discussion
Post-screening discussion featuring Chicago Youth organizers Destiny Bell and Destiny Harris, Director Caullen Hudson, and Producer David A. Moran, moderated by Nziki Wiltz, Voters Organized to Educate.
From 2017-2019, Chicago Black youth and other youth of color powerfully organized and
led an effort against the construction of a $95 million dollar cop academy, and demanded the city of
Chicago fund youth and communities instead. This documentary chronicles the explosive
#NoCopAcademy campaign through those who lived it.

BIOS:
Destiny Harris is a Black, queer educator, writer, poet, abolitionist and anti-imperialist organizer from the West Side of Chicago. She is an alumna of Howard University who believes in the power of art and grassroots organizing as a vehicle to achieving liberation throughout the diaspora.
Destiny Bell: As a young person, Destiny was always interested in making her hood better by building solidarity with her community and pushing back on harmful narratives and policies. She started organizing in 2017, originally with Assatas Daughters, a queer Black woman-led and youth-focused organization rooted in the Black Radical Tradition, before being introduced to the #NoCopAcademy campaign and has continued to build power ever since.
David Alfonso Moran is a Chicano storyteller from Chicago. Serving as the Multimedia Director & Producer for SoapBox Productions and Organizing David has produced and directed award winning films such as Seguimos Aqui: Pride Pandemic & Perseverance, One Million Experiments (the film), and now: #NoCopAcademy: the Documentary, as well as organizing, and engaging in the day-to-day operations of both the 501(c)3 and the culture. David received his BA from Columbia College Chicago.
Caullen Hudson is a Chicago-based filmmaker, activist, and fitness professional who creates with his non-profit SoapBox Productions and Organizing. He founded SoapBox after earning a BA in Digital Cinema at DePaul University where he returned in 2017 to earn a masters in sociology in an effort to better understand the ways to explore issues through social research and creative pathways. Now with a decade of film, commercial, and television/web experience, years of community-based organizing work, and SoapBoxs ever-evolving efforts, Caullen directs, produces, educates, organizes, and acts to bring about participatory, authentic structures and alliances to transform narratives, abolish oppressive systems, and build towards a more liberatory future. Caullen aims to center, explore, and amplify issues of inequity and challenge them with intentionality, creativity, and radical imagination. When not creating films or building power with grassroots organizing campaigns, Caullen can be found recording the Bourbon n BrownTown podcast, teaching fitness classes, or sippin on a fine whiskey.
Nziki Wiltz
Regional Political Coordinator | Voters Organized to Educate
Nziki is a New Orleans native who has cultivated a lifetime of care and support for her community. Since she was young, Nziki knew that she wanted to be an educator. Growing up, she had a strong desire to support the other children in her neighborhood, from making sure that those in need had access to food, to inviting people into her church. On January 24, 2019, Orleans Parish charged Nziki with racketeering on with her juvenile son, even though she had no knowledge or involvement with the crime. That sparked a passion in her to fight for the justice reform needed in our community. Shortly after, she became a VOTE member to create that change. Nziki successfully fought the charges and is no longer part of the criminal legal system. Two years later, she is now part of VOTE's Community Organizing Team, working on member engagement and voter registration.
