Anne Heaton and Emily Nott: Love Song
Arts + Literature Laboratory welcomes singer/songwriters Anne Heaton and Emily Nott for an evening of music centered around love, on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 7:30pm. Tickets are $20 general admission, $15 ALL Member, $10 students in advance online, or $25 at the door for everyone. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, January 3, 2024.
This special evening will feature acoustic music from Anne Heaton (Milwaukee) and Emily Nott (Chicago). Love songs are a lot broader than the Valentines season would lead us to believe, and we hope to share songs that celebrate love of community, friendship, self, and the natural world in addition to romantic love. All of these loves are valid, nourish our hearts and spirits, and are needed in the world. Come enjoy an evening with us!
Anne will be accompanied on acoustic guitar by Frank Marotta, Jr.
Emily will be joined by multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Jess Baldissero on the violin and Jeremy Ward on the cello.
Anne Heaton is a singer-songwriter and pianist who has captured audience imaginations for over fifteen years with her songs that are, by turns, tender, barbed and spiritual (Washington Post). Shes been featured by the New York Times Music Podcast, played on NPR, at the Sundance Film Festival and for Lilith Fair (2010). Known for the infectious energy of her live performances a natural performer [with] a rich, soaring voice (Seattle Times) Anne has played over 1,000 headlining shows nationwide, and has shared the stage with artists such as Jewel, Sarah McLachlan, and jazz drummer Max Roach. Anne has taught songwriting and creative practices at Interlochen, Berklee College of Music, for the GRAMMY Camps and through her own online songwriting program, Soul Songs School. Anne recently completed her Masters in Curriculum & Instruction at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she researched the outcomes of songwriting as a social emotional learning tool for teenagers. Anne lives in Milwaukee where she enjoys coffee, Lake Michigan and being a mom to two freethinking daughters.
Chicago-based Emily Nott is a singer/songwriter with a deep folk and roots sound. She writes plaintive, poetic lyrics with earnest melodies inspired by the folk traditions she was raised in. She studied ballad singing in West Virginia and grew up playing folk music with her family in Michigan. She's inspired by poet songwriters like Gillian Welch, Connie Converse, and Judie Sill. She also plays with Chicago groups Joybird and Glass Mountain, and has shared a stage with Sam Amidon, Elizabeth Laprelle, Jim Lauderdale, Bruce Molsky, and the Brother Brothers. She was a 2018 recipient of a Chicago Arts and Culture grant for her debut album Time Before, which was received as an incredible record...there is a stripped-down beauty to the work that [Emily is] doing that harkens back to a simpler time." (Chicago Crowd Surfer). Emily is currently a doctoral student in the department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and is interested in the healing, liberatory capacities of arts education.
