'Sing in the new year' with the International Staff Songsters
20 January 2024 at 7pm at Regent Hall - Start your new year with a burst of song featuring the International Staff Songsters, led by Dorothy Nancekievill, with renowned soloist Charlie Green, and a celebration choir formed specially for the occasion, of singers from across the UK, supported by Regent Hall Band of The Salvation Army.
The choir is joining together for a workshop with the ISS at 3pm - 5pm and then participating in the concert at 7pm. Register your interest in taking part in the choir by emailing Songster Secretary K. Mercer at info@salvationarmy.org.uk.
International Staff Songsters
The International Staff Songsters have a special role at the forefront of Salvation Army vocal music making in the UK and around the world. Based in London (UK), the Songsters use the power of music and song to share Gods love and to bring people and communities together.
They sing a varied setlist of praise hymns, classical songs and contemporary choral music to inspire the listener. Their repertoire includes music by composers from The Salvation Army and artists such as Bob Chilcott, Mark Hayes, John Rutter, and Eric Whitacre.
Dorothy Nanckievill
The ISS are conducted by Dorothy Nancekievill who is a Honorary Associate of the Royal Academy of Music in London. Dorothy is formerly Head of a church school (Farringtons School in Kent) and previously Director of Music at Wells Cathedral School.
Charlie Green
Charlie Green was catapulted into the limelight at just ten years old, when he wowed the Britains Got Talent judges with his rendition of the Sinatra classic, Summer Wind in 2008. Over the past 12 years Charlie has toured in numerous countries, including Italy, China, Japan, The Philippines and Canada. Jimmy Osmond became Charlies manager and mentor and he spent over 3 years touring the USA & UK with The Osmonds.
Regent Hall Band and Corps
From the heart of London, Regent Hall Band of the Salvation Army is one of the busiest and most photographed brass bands in the world. Under the leadership of Bandmaster Paul Sharman, Regent Hall Band members worship at their church at 275 Oxford Street, in the centre of Londons theatre district.
The only church on Oxford Street was created by The Salvation Armys founder, General William Booth, when he turned a former roller skating rink into God's house. Regent Hall Band began in 1882 when 13 musicians marched along Oxford Street for the first time. Today, Regent Hall Corps conducts a full programme to meet the needs of its community throughout the week. As well as a Sunday service, the church runs an community hub for homeless and vulnerable people.
The ISS will be leading Sunday morning worship at Regent Hall on 21 January 2024 at 11am. At 3.30pm there is the Installation of the new Territorial Leaders for the UK and Ireland, Colonels Paul and Janine Main.
