Karla FC Holloway: Reading & Conversation | Persimmon Creek Residency
On Saturday, May 13, the Persimmon Creek Writers & Artists Residency hosts a free public event with writer, scholar, and May 2023 resident Karla FC Holloway.
Starting at 7:00 pm, Holloway will read from her work at Arrow Rock's Historic Christian Church, located at 711 Main Street. A moderated conversation and Q&A will then follow.
After the Q&A, activities will move to Arrow Rock's Historic Brown's Chapel (710 High Street) for a reception and live entertainment from Kansas City's Brother John. Brown's Chapel is in easy walking and driving distance of the Christian Church.
The event is FREE and open to the public. Organizers ask that attendees register in advance of the reading via Brown Paper Tickets.
Karla FC Holloway is James B. Duke Emerita Professor of English and African American Studies and Professor of Law at Duke University. During her professional career, her classrooms and scholarship focused on literature, law, and bioethics. Since becoming emerita, Holloway has turned her full attention to writing fiction, painting, and tweeting from @ProfHolloway. In 2019, TriQuarterly published Holloways debut work of literary fiction, A DEATH IN HARLEM, set during the Harlem Renaissance. A second novel, GONE MISSING IN HARLEM, followed in 2021 and received a Publishers Weekly Starred Review. Holloway is now at work on the third book in the series, A LIBRARY IN HARLEM, and she will continue the project in Arrow Rock.
