An Exercise in History: Requa Walking Tour of Coronado

Architect Richard Requa promoted the preservation of San Diego's Spanish Revival architecture and is noted for creating his own masterpieces. After training and working as an architect in the office of Irving J. Gill, Mr. Requa partnered with Frank L. Mead. The two developed an interest in the various historical forms of architecture that would be reinterpreted regionally as Spanish Revival. During the 1920's Mr. Requa and Herbert L. Jackson worked in a style that Mr. Requa termed Southern California Architecture.

Join SOHO for an exercise in history in Coronado to view a premiere selection of Mr. Requa's designs. This tour is limited and is available through pre-paid reservations only. Approximately one mile in length, the tour features a broad range from pure Spanish Revival to a blending of Craftsman and Spanish Revival.

Tour guide Allen Hazard is a native San Diegan who is currently a health education and exercise science community college instructor at Grossmont College, Southwestern College and National University. He assures us this will not be difficult walk! It will be a leisurely beautiful day along the oceanfront community of Coronado. Allen is the co founder of Mission Hills Heritage, a SOHO board member and has conducted many historic walks throughout San Diego's historic communities.
