Performer-scholar Eliot Grasso is an innovative researcher and teacher in the fields of musicology, ethnomusicology, and Irish traditional performance practice. Grasso has taught and performed in North American and Europe having appeared as a soloist for Piping Live! (2010), Glasgow's international piping festival, and the William Kennedy International Piping Festival (2009) held in Armagh, Northern Ireland. Dr. Eliot Grasso holds a Ph.D. in musicology from the University of Oregon, a M.A. in ethnomusicology from the University of Limerick, and a B.A. from Goucher College.

Dr. Eliot Grasso holds a Ph.D. in musicology from the University of Oregon, a M.A. in ethnomusicology from the University of Limerick, and a B.A. from Goucher College.  He has written articles for the upcoming Encyclopedia of Music in Ireland, edited by Barra Boydell and Harry White, University College Dublin (2011), Art of Record Production Conference Proceedings (2008), Iris na bPíobairí, andAn Píobaire. Grasso has also contributed text for World Music: A Global Journey, 3rd edition by Terry E. Miller and Andrew Shahriari (in press).

In addition, Grasso has performed for the National Endowment for the Arts Awards, the National Heritage Awards, Island, the Washington Cathedral Art Symposium, The American Ireland Fund, the US-Ireland Business Summit, and has toured the British Isles with the Oregon Chorale under the direction of Bernd Kuehn.

He has also performed at the Kennedy Center with Irish-American fiddler and National Heritage Fellow Liz Carroll, Constitution Hall with GlobalDistinguished Professor of Music and Irish Studies Mick Moloney, the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall with The Chieftains, the Library of Congress with Cherish the Ladies, the National Building Museum, the National Geographic Concert Hall, and the home of the Irish Ambassador.

In 2004, Grasso was invited to perform for Garrison Keillor's "A Prairie Home Companion" on National Public Radio where he was honored with the Ray Marklund Award for amiable stage presence. Additional live radio broadcasts include Raidió Teilifís Éireann's "The Rolling Wave," presented by Peter Browne, "The Edge On Folk," hosted by Steve Edge and broadcast from the University of British Columbia, "The Long Acre," hosted by Cindy Reich and broadcast from Fort Collins, Colorado, and "Our Saturday Tradition," broadcast from Bellevue, Washington.

He has performed as a soloist for Patrick Cassidy's orchestral work, Famine Remembrance, with members of the Washington Chamber Symphony under the direction of Elaine Rendler, and for Stephen Simon's Mike Mulligan and the Steam Shovel with the Harrisburg Symphony under the baton of the composer. Grasso has also performed with actor, Russell Crowe, for the unveiling of a memorial to fellow actor Richard Harris in Kilkee, County Clare.

Grasso has won regional and international first, second, and third place titles at Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann's Mid-Atlantic Fleadh Cheoil and international Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in the uilleann pipes and tin whistle divisions. At the conclusion of the 1998 Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, Grasso performed alongside other All-Ireland champions in a concert for Irish President, Mary Robinson.

As a recording artist, Grasso has collaborated on over a dozen recording projects. In 2007, Grasso launched Up Against the Flatirons, a solo album of uilleann piping commissioned by Na Píobairí Uilleann, the Piper's Club in Dublin. Grasso's recording of unaccompanied uilleann piping is volume 1 of Na Píobairí Uilleann's series of master pipers, The Ace and Deuce of Piping.

Grasso has also appeared as a guest artist on National Public Radio's "A Prairie Home Companion" and on RTE's Irish traditional music program "The Rolling Wave." Backing Eliot on guitar is Glen Waddell from Skye fame, the sadly-missed Eugene band that played the northwest for fifteen years before their final recording, Storm Watch, in 2009.
