NY Opera Forum presents in concert Cavalleria Rusticana and Act 2 of Parsifal at Central Unitarian Church, Paramus, NJ
Cavalleria Rusticana is one of the most famous one act operas and while usually paired with Pagliacci, this time it is being paired with Act 2 of Parsifal, the classic opera by Richard Wagner.
Cavalleria Rusticana (Italian for Rustic Chivalry) is a one act opera by Piertro Mascagni. It sets to music an Italian short story telling the story of love, betrayal and revenge in Sicily. It was an instant and international success when presented. In 1888 it was submitted by Mascagni's wife into a competition and won the top prize.
Parsifal by Richard Wagner is an opera in three acts. The work was first performed at the Bayreuth, Bavaria Germany and he considered it a "theatre-consecrating festival piece." He sensed this would be his last stage work and put into place a financial legacy for his son and the future of his Bayreuth festival. The starting point is the tale of Parsifal, an Arthurian knight in search of the Holy Grail. Act 2 takes place in Klingsor's magic castle.
New York Opera Forum was founded by Richard Nechamkin in 1983 to give classically trained singers the opportunity to learn and perform standard operatic repertoire in the original languages. Complete operas are performed in concert with piano accompaniment, scenes programs are either in concert or staged with minimal props and costumes, and occasional showcase and lieder recitals are presented.
