Reading and Q&A with Hermine Pinson | Arrow Rock, MO
On Saturday, June 11, the Persimmon Creek Writers and Artists Residency will host a public event celebrating poet, fiction writer, musician and scholar Hermine Pinson and her two-week stay in the historic Village of Arrow Rock, Missouri.

Starting at 7:00 pm, Pinson will read selections from her work at Arrow Rocks historic Christian Church, located  at 711 Main St, after which she will participate in a Q&A led by residency staff member Andrew Blossom. Topics of discussion will include Hermines practice as a poet; her current project of writing a memoir;  her stay in Arrow Rock; her scholarship at the College of William & Mary, including her study of James Baldwin;  and any topics of interest to attendees.

Following the Q&A, a reception will take place on the lawn of historic Brown's Chapel at 710 Main Street, featuring music from Kansas City's J Love Band and refreshments provided by the residency.

Hermine Pinson is the Frances and Edwin L. Cummings Professor of English at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, where she teaches Creative Writing, Literature, and Africana Studies. She has published three poetry collections: Ashe, a chapbook; Mama Yetta and Other Poems; and Dolores is Blue/Dolorez is Blues. Her first CD, Changing the Changes in Poetry & Song, was produced in special collaboration with Yusef Komunyakaa and Estella Conwill Majozo. Her second CD, Deliver Yourself, is a collaboration with Harris Simon and the Harris Simon Trio. Pinsons poetry, fiction, and critical essays have appeared in anthologies and journals, such as Callaloo, Verse, Cave Canem Poetry Anthology, The Ringing Ear: Black Poets Lean South, African American Review, Common Bonds: Stories by and About Modern Texas Women, Eyeball, Konch, Melus, Paintbrush, and Forum for European Contributions in African American Studies. Recent short fiction has appeared in the anthologies Richmond Noir and The Evil One. Recent critical work includes a memoir essay on Mound Bayou, Mississippi;  an ekphrastic poem on the work of artist Odile Donald Odita for the Virginia Museum of  Fine Arts; and two commissioned poems for the Dance Suite, Nine, by Frances and Edwin L. Cummings Professor of Dance Leah Glenn.

This event is FREE and open to the public. Organizers ask that attendees register via Brown Paper Tickets in advance of the reading. That site can be found here:
