The word eclectic can be overused. But if you toss songwriters like John Prine, Hank Williams, Bonne Raitt, Leonard Cohen in with blues, swing, jazz, it is eclectic. Add to the mix the pedigree of this trio, it really is eclectic. This band was a duo looking for something, someone to fill in the gaps in their arrangements, more than just fill in the voids; more than round out their sound. Not a slide, not another guitar. They found a cello. Mark Dudrow joined Rhonda Schoenecker and Charley Johnson. They are now Rhondavoo.
Rhonda Schoenecker is originally from Texas and got to Colorado as quickly as she could, but not before soaking up some Texas blues, swing, vintage jazz, and country. She landed in Leadville well before the culture was tamed, working at the Climax mine, slinging drinks, and playing music in the bars. She now calls the San Luis Valley her home, under the vast sky and in the wide-open valley. All of these influences find their way into her smokey vocals and guitar chops. Veteran bassist, Charley Johnson, is a well-known native of the San Luis Valley and has been musical partners with Rhonda for eight years. For decades he has performed all over the country, playing and recording with some of the best. He adds imaginative finesse to the selection and arrangements of our repertoire, lends vocals, and keeps it solid. Mark Dudrow is an accomplished cellist whose broad background imparts a multi-dimensional, sometimes mischievous, element to the mix. He lives in the borderland between New Mexico and Colorado in the San Luis Valley and has been playing cello for audiences in the Upper Rio Grande and Arkansas Valleys for more than two decades. His passion is to share the song of the cello with ALL kinds of audiences at concert venues, festivals, farmers' markets, brewpubs, and even yoga classes. He collaborates with musicians in many genres, including Singer-Songwriter, Classical, Americana, Tango, Blues, Jazz, and Rock and Roll.
