Luminaire: On the Fringe SHOWS

Illumination Dance Studio presents Luminaire: On the Fringe. This is a four day event in Richmond Virginia showcasing the unique talents and takes on bellydance, along with live music, classes, and parties. It is the expansion of Raqs Luminaire, encompassed by the festival, and now in it's fifth year. There are three main shows, two days of workshops with international and national dancers and artists, vending, and celebrating the thinking outside of the box!

Luminaire is the brainchild of Khalima, a full-time dancer, instructor, artist, singer, the owner of Illumination Dance Studio; she is lovingly referred to as Richmond's own Dancing Madwoman. Smitten with the ideas of light and dark, she set out to make an annual event exploring the topic in a literal sense, and emerged with a light up bellydance spectacular that has been shared across the globe. Each year since, dancers and musicians have filled up the historic Byrd Theater once a year with theatrical bellydance, light up costuming, and a twist on the traditional. This year, Luminaire will consist of three shows:

~Friday3/7/14: Live Music, Bellydance and Puppet Ballyhoo at Lovebomb!

~Saturday 3/8/14: On the Fringe Variety Exhibition at Dogtown Dance Theatre

~Sunday 3/9/14: Raqs Luminaire: Desert Mythic at the Historic Byrd Theater. Khalima's annual light-up bellydance spectacular!

There will be dance, music, business, and more classes with international star Amel Tafsout, along with Autumn Ward (NYC), Mavi, Shahrzad, Alyssum Pohl, Khalima, Lumythic, All The Saints Theater Company, Julia Zay, August Hoerr, Darbuka Dave, and Lumani Dance Theater.
