Richard II
Children's Shakespeare Theatre presents The Life and Death of Richard the Second The year is 1399. Medieval England is at the threshold of the renaissance, and King Richard II is both the cause and victim of this time of upheaval. A true medieval king, ruling by divine right as kings have done for hundreds of years, Richard squanders the treasure of his kingdom- and the goodwill of his subjects. But when he banishes his cousin Henry Bolingbroke, the Duke of Hereford, he unleashes a drama of war, and the rise of a king who is raised by the people- not ordained by God. Please join the Knaves of CST, as we pursue questions of loyalty, love, and the nature of kingship. Director Daniel Hanchrow is transforming the Palisades Presbyterian Church with a small scale reproduction of the Rose Theatre, where Shakespeare's company performed before the construction of the Globe Theatre. The performances are in period costume and will immerse you in an authentic feel of the time.
Children's Shakespeare Theatre is in it's fifteenth year under the guidance of Artistic Director Diana Green, and this year won Hudson Valley Magazine's 'Best Of' award for Best Way to Learn the Classics.
