Appearing@ The Harlem Flophouse presents New York City's  featuring Erena Terakubo on sax

Erena Terakubo was born in Sapporo, Japan in 1992.  She began playing the alto saxophone at the age of nine.  She took jazz clinics with musicians including Herbie Hancock when she was attending Sapporo Junior Jazz Orchestra.  In 2010, Terakubo released her first album, "North Bird" with Kenny Barron, Christian McBride, Lee Pearson and Peter Bernstein, through Japanese major label King Records.  It marked No. 1 on the Japanese jazz charts, and was awarded Swing Journal's Gold Disc.  Later that year, she performed with Ron Carter, Omar Hakim and Will Boulware at the Tokyo Jazz Festival.  In 2011, Terakubo recorded her second album, "New York Attitude" with Kenny Barron, Ron Carter, Lee Pearson and Dominick Farinacci.  In the same year, she was awarded a presidential scholarship from Berklee College of Music.  In 2002, she performed at Monterey Jazz Festival and Playboy Jazz Festival.  In 2013, Terakubo recorded her third disc, "Burkina" with Kenny Barron, Ron Carter, Jimmy Cobb and Lenny White.  In 2015, she moved to New York City.  In 2016, she released her fourth album, "A Time For Love" with David Hazeltine, David Williams and Lewis Nash.  She has taken her bands to Japan, Europe, United States, and Africa. Terakubo keeps playing energetically all over the world, as one of the most promising talents in jazz.

The Harlem Flophouse, built in the 1890s, has been in continuous operation as a flophouse since 1917. Lovingly restored by artist/musician Rene Calvo it has garnered a world wide reputation for it's unique beauty and character. It was listed by the french travel journal Routard as one of the 50 "dream" hotels in the world, referred to as "The legendary Harlem Flophouse" by German travel guide Geo Saison and included in the top twenty hotels in New York City by The London Sunday Times. It has been the site of numerous photo shoots, TV and film productions.
