An Evening with Leah Grams Johnson, Featuring Mark Dudrow

Venue: A Church

When Leah Grams Johnson was seeking a space to record a special collection of songs, sound engineer and mutual friend Erick Jaskowiak (Darrell Scott, The Chieftains, Alison Krauss) connected Leah and Mark Dudrow, with Marks beautiful adobe church in mind. The following spring, Leah and Erick both made their way to Marks remote property and recorded her debut project Jaroso, with Marks cello featured on several of the tracks. This show is a homecoming for the release of Jaroso: bringing the music back to the region where the magic first occurred.

ABOUT LEAH GRAMS JOHNSON:

Leah Grams Johnson is an artist and songwriter, hailing from the rugged coast of Northern California. With a distinct timbre akin to the untamable spirit of the American West, Leahs authentic take on Folk and Country music has resonated with fans of all musical backgrounds nationwide. Raised on the voices of strong impassioned women like Emmylou Harris and Joni Mitchell, Leah discovered at a young age the magic of music and power of a well-written song. She is an alumna of both the Berklee College of Music and the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation, and has been a finalist in numerous songwriting contests including the Telluride Bluegrass Festival and the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival.

Leahs debut EP titled Jaroso is a six song chronological journey of heritage and healing. Recorded in a vacant adobe church on the border of Colorado and New Mexico this truly intimate body of work is as stark and timeless as the plains where it was composed. The creation of this project was so much more than the songs alone. It was the mountains, the kestrels, and the sage. The high whistle of the wind and creak of the piano bench. We surrendered to it all in the process, and left these living elements there to be felt and heard. From the wild love story of her nomadic parents, to the winding path of becoming a woman as a motherless daughter, Leah soothes the collective heart of life with her songs.

Like those who came before her she so deeply admires, Leah is a woman of heart and mind. She is her own breed of cowgirl mystic, living on gut feelings, with an unshakeable love for the world.

ABOUT MARK DUDROW:

Mark Dudrow has been playing the cello for live audiences for over 30 years and was a frequent performer at the Salida Café. His performances there, whether in an Americana singer songwriter duo, in a Chamber/Improv Duo, traditional Balkan music or Rockn Roll, were not to be missed. He is clearly the most versatile cellist to grace the stages anywhere in the Arkansas Valley. His virtuosity and passion for performing defines the mission of great venues: to present talented musicians that appeal to the diversity of all audiences, to shows us that the intrinsically sublime richness of music is accessible to all.
I personally cherish every opportunity to hear Mark play live, in any venue, in any ensemble.
