Barak Hill's Sketches Scraps and Lines: Emily Higgins and Mark Bilyeu
Sketches, Scraps, and Lines is a monthly songwriter showcase hosted by Barak Hill. Each show features a brief interview and a set of original songs from two of Barak's favorite songwriters.
Barak's guests for October are Emily Higgins and Mark Bilyeu.
Emily is a singer-songwriter with four albums of original songs under her belt. She currently fronts the band Auntie Em and the Tornadoes and is a member of the trio The HigLeeWils. Emily's most recent collection of songs, "91 Acres," was commissioned by a Missouri landowner wishing to memorialize his journey in land reclamation, as well as the wildlife, geographical features, nature and hobbies that comprise his beautiful property. Emily is also producer and host of the weekly songwriter-centric radio show "The Mulberry Tree" airing Sundays at 9 pm on KSMU.
Mark Bilyeu is a singer/songwriter whose sound is steeped in Ozarks tradition. As a member of Big Smith, Mark bridged traditional Ozarks music, bluegrass, and rock and roll. In The Creek Rocks, with his wife Cindy Woolf, Mark pays tribute to those traditional songs and sounds. Mark is a musical folklorist whose own songs stand shoulder to shoulder with the traditional songs he introduces to audiences.
You're welcome to bring your own drinks, alcoholic or otherwise. However, this is a quiet, listening room show, as well as a live podcast taping. Talking or being in anyway disruptive during the show will not be tolerated.
