ENERGY AND WATER IN THE WEST: PRIORITIES FOR A HEALTHY WASHINGTON with Michael Hightower and Joan Crooks

The series opens with a seminar that highlights a major dilemma as our nation seeks to reduce its reliance on oil: the burden placed on our limited water supplies through the development of many renewable energy sources. In the second part of this seminar, we will bring these issues home to Washington State, as we discuss environmental legislative priorities and what our state is doing now to meet the changing needs of our region.

Michael Hightower aims to build bridges between water and energy security through research and technology. He works at the Energy Security Center, Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque, New Mexico and is a civil and environmental engineer with over 25 years experience in research and development projects.

As executive director of Washington Environmental Council, Joan Crooks is an architect of the Environmental Priorities Coalition, a collaborative of over 20 groups in the region that work together to lobby for strong state environmental protections.
