Clark County Dental Society - General Member Meeting - January 7, 2021, 6pm to 9pm
Our featured speaker is Dr. Jay Harris Levy and he will be presenting "CR, Head posture, Fascia, Airway and Occlusion."
The purpose of this course is to introduce a systems approach to dental occlusion. Systems Thinking is the key to understanding and effectively managing dental occlusion. Dental occlusion depends on the robustness, interconnectedness and integration of physiologic and anatomic systems. The teeth and TMJ scan last a lifetime with minimal wear or damage if the patient is healthy and has a functional occlusion. The devastation of dysfunctional occlusion is witnessed by dentists everyday. The majority of dental work is performed to fix damaged teeth without understanding the systemic problems that caused this damage to occur.
Orthodontists working with general dentists have the unique opportunity to stabilize dysfunctional occlusion and promote systemic health by improving nutrition, posture, breathing and tooth longevity.
This lecture will discuss: Head posture and the Atlanto Occipital joints effect on CR How fascia connecting the bones of the head and neck alters occlusal relationships How malocclusion can negatively impact head posture, airway and the stability of the phayngo-orofacial system How orthodontists and general dentists can alter vertical dimension and jaw size to manipulate fascial tension on the pharynx to improve airway.
