Introductory Workshop in Acting Shakespeare
As the title indicates this is an introductory workshop in Acting Shakespeare. It's open to those: who have only thought about acting Shakespeare; those who may have found themselves frustrated in their experiences of actingShakespeare; and those who feel they might still have room to improve their fluency with Shakespeare, whom some have called the greatest writer to have ever written in the English language.

The goal of the workshop is to give you a set of simple tools allowing you to approach any text, Shakespearean or otherwise, with a self assurance born from these tools. These tools, in turn, spring from a belief that every play requires at least two things from its actors. They are:

   A:    The ability to tell the story;
   B:    The ability to bring ourselves to the
story we are telling.

Since the fall of 2007, Christopher McCann has been a teacher of Acting in the Acting Program of the Conservatory of Theater Arts, at Purchase College, SUNY. He teaches in the 3rd year of a 4 year program and the canvas for that year is Shakespeare.

He comes to teaching from an almost 40 year career in Theater, Film and TV.

As an Actor in Theater he has worked with internationally acclaimed directors such as Lucian Pintilie, Richard Foreman, Joseph Chaikin, Ann Bogart, Robert Woodruff, Bartlett Sher, Douglas Hughes, Garland Wright, Carl Weber, Ron Daniels, Mark Wing-Davy and Moises Kaufman.  As an actor, in film, directors he has worked with include Sidney Lumet, John Slattery, Carlos Puga, Lance Edmands, Tim Disney, Antonio Campos, Rob Reiner, Phillip Noyce, Mary Harron, Michael Glawogger, and Tim B. Nelson. In theater, he has appeared in the premiere productions of plays by such authors as Tony Kushner, Caryll Churchill, John Guare, Sam Shepard, Charles Mee, Len Jenkin, Tim B. Nelson, Botho Strauss, George Walker, Ellen McLaughlin, Elizabeth Egloff, Mark Schultz and the NY premieres of two Bertolt Brecht plays: the 1974 production of The Measures Taken (at the Public Theater) and the 1978 off-bdwy production of St. Joan of the Stockyards. More recently, June 2011, for The New Group he appeared in a never before produced work of Tennessee Williams - ONE ARM. He has directed the plays of David Linsay-Abaire, Caryll Churchill, Jose Rivera, David Mamet, Quincy Long, Will Eno, Y. York, Sam Shepard and William Shakespeare
