Playwright Spotlight Series presented by Frank Theatre
Frank Theatre is kicking off our 25th Season with Jordan Harrison's MAPLE AND VINE running at the Old Arizona Oct 11-27. You can purchase tickets here:     http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/449637

As part of our mission to "challenge the everyday perceptions of the audience through the exploration of ideas and issues of social, political and/or cultural concern" we offer a series of FREE staged readings which allow our audience to become more familiar with the work of the playwrights we produce.  The FREE readings will be at our rehearsal space on select Wednesdays.

Wednesday, 10/16: FINN IN THE UNDERWORLD

In this contemporary Gothic tale, Gwen and her sister Rhoda are
packing up their belongings -- and secrets -- in their crooked
childhood house. When Gwen's wayward son Finn arrives to harvest the
more fashionable heirlooms, he meets a neighbor who is not what he
seems. Finn's sexual curiosity draws him down into the fallout
shelter, and into the heart of an unfinished ghost story. A
sexually-charged thriller about what can happen when grief goes
unspoken.

Wednesday, 10/23:DORIS TO DARLENE: A CAUTIONARY VALENTINE

In the candy-colored 1960s, biracial schoolgirl Doris is molded into
pop star Darlene by a whiz-kid record producer who culls a top-ten hit
out of Richard Wagner's "Liebestod." Rewind to the candy-colored
1860s, where Wagner is writing the melody that will become Darlene's
hit song. Fast-forward to the not-so-candy-colored present, where a
teenager obsesses over Darlene's music - and his music teacher. Three
stories merge into an unlikely harmony in this time-jumping pop fairy
tale about the dreams and disasters behind one transcendent song.

ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT:
Jordan Harrison is a playwright based in NY with strong roots in the
Minnesota theater scene. He moved to Minneapolis, after receiving his
MFA at Brown University, as a Jerome Fellow at the Playwright's
Center. His second play, THE MUEUM PLAY, was produced at Red Eye and
he wrote pieces for The Children's Theatre and Commonweal under
commission. Harrison's sharp examinations of race, class, sexuality,
and gender are delivered with humor and imagination. His inventive and
unconventional works are visually stunning.
He is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Hodder Fellowship
at Princeton University, a Theater Masters' Innovative Playwright
Award, the Kesselring Prize, the Heideman Award, the Loewe Award for
Musical Theater, Jerome and McKnight Fellowships from The Playwrights'
Center.
