PETRICHOR director Shirin Shakesi, Student Filmmaker, Animation, Australia, 2019, 2 min. Petrichor traces a short journey about insects and animals population decline that affects ecosystems and humanity which would leave only a memory of them for us in the near future. Possible causes of the decline have been identified as habitat destruction, including intensive agriculture, urbanization, and industrialization; introduced species; and climate change so if not mitigated by decisive action, the decline would have a catastrophic impact on the planet's ecosystems. (Petrichor means a pleasant smell that frequently accompanies the first rain after a long period of warm.)

Director Biography - Lake Worth Filmmaker Kat Brady is a graduate of the Motion Picture Production program at Palm Beach State College. Her directorial debut film, The Big Frozen Gumshoe was independently produced as part of the PBSC Feature Film Initiative. Kat has worked as an editor on independent short films and commercial productions. She is currently employed at her alma mater's film department as the Post Production Supervisor and continues to work on independent films as a director, writer, and editor. Director Statement At 21 and on my way out of college, I took hold of the opportunities the film program I was in offered by submitting a feature length script, co-written with my future husband, Josh, to the Feature Film Initiative at Palm Beach State College. The film department provided the equipment while myself, Josh, and our DP Shelby Halberg created our production company to independently produce our film. Writing, directing, and editing a feature length film with a $6,000 budget when the longest film Id previously made before was 5 minutes long was a challenge, to say the least. This has been a wild journey since day one of pre-production. Through every step Ive grown and evolved alongside the creation of The Big Frozen Gumshoe. I hope that those who see our film can feel how hard a bunch of eager filmmakers and actors from South Florida were to get this passion project made. Our entire cast and crew came together to pursue their dreams. Our drive was to create, learn, and ultimately to make people laugh.
