CARIS' PEACE, September 28, 2013, 6:00pm, Director: Gaylen Ross, Documentary, USA, 76 min
The documentary film, Caris' Peace tells the story of New York theater and film actress Caris Corfman, a brilliant graduate of the Yale School of Drama and a contemporary of luminaries including Lewis Black, Kate Burton, and Tony Shalhoub. As the result of a brain tumor, Ms. Corfman lost her ability to make new memories and found her career cut short. Filmed over 10 years, Caris' Peace documents her courageous return to the stage, and the fascinating ways she challenged her memory loss. Through this articulate woman, audiences witness an extraordinary journey to regain a life once lived, and a struggle to overcome the limitations of a debilitating condition.
Among those voices included in the film are Kate Burton (actress), Tony Shalhoub, (actor/Monk), Lewis Black, (playwright and political comedian/The Daily Show), Eric Overmyer (playwright, television producer and writer: Law and Order/Homicide) Yusef Bulos (actor), Nancy Giles (actress, comedian, commentator CBS Sunday Morning), David Carr (New York Times writer and columnist) and Dr. Barry Gordon (Professor of Neurology and Cognitive Science, The Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions). The film is directed by Gaylen Ross with collaborating director Rebecca Nelson, and produced by Gaylen Ross, Rebecca Nelson, Steve Skrovan, Andrew Ford and Lewis Black.
Caris' Peace was the official selections of the Hamptons International Film Festival, Williamstown Film Festival, Santa Fe Film Festival and Cleveland International Film Festival. It won Best Documentary Feature at the Athens International Film Festival, Ohio, and was an award winner in the Calgary "Picture This" International Disability Film Festival.
