The Liminal Heart: An MFA Dance Thesis Project
The Liminal Heart is a multi-disciplinary memorial that commemorates not one life or one soul, but provides an opportunity to collectively contemplate grief and loss. Memories are made real through embodied individual expressions of grief and communal rituals that seek to perceive and transform societys often disconnected expectations for surviving grief.
- The Wake Line - A ceremonial line of remembrance emerges. Moments spent to honor those who have died. Waiting, overlooking the inner precipice of the depths of grief. A somber stillness fills the waters of the heart, as wave after wave is received.
- The Funeral Walk - A walk through the cemetery to pay respect to the deepest chambers of the heart where grief is held. Tears fill these liminal waters, as dancers draw us further into the unknown. Moments of pause to peer into the windows of others grief, loss, and memory.
-The Ritual - A ritual of movement brings us closer to ourselves and to those who have died. Moments stolen to mourn outside of the current. Collective effervescence that is unified in loss carries us into the deepest part of the sea.
- Collective Memorial - Grief is a universal truth, something we all must carry. Who do you carry with you? Grace us with the stories of those you have loved, imprinting the vivid memories and names to our collective memorial. To share your story, please visit the collective memorial section of theliminalheart.com
