Visions of Peace, a concert by Melodia Women's Choir, Sun, Nov 24 at 3:00PM, West End Collegiate
Melodia Women's Choir opens its eleventh season with a spirited concert to beckon the holidays, with three major works for treble choir and a selection of jazzy arrangements. The centerpiece of the concert is Britten's beloved "A Ceremony of Carols," performed in honor of Britten's 100th birthday. Also on the program is Gustav Holst's haunting and rarely-heard "Seven part-Songs for Female Voices and Strings," and Paul Csonka's sensuous "Concierto di Navidad," sung in Spanish. Conducted by Artistic Director Cynthia Powell, Melodia's 28 singers will be joined by Taisiya Pushkar on piano and Transfiguration String Quintet. The concert will also be performed on Saturday, November 23 at 7:30PM at Holy Apostles Church, 296 Ninth Avenue, Chelsea, NYC.
