All By Myself: Capturing and Molding Your Pandemic Stories
We all have stories from our pasts, but what about shaping a story from what is happening to you right now?
In this four-week class we will use strategies that will help shape the answer to the "What did you do during the Pandemic of 2020?" question. We are all going through a major life-shifting experience. All great stories are based on how a character (you) changes. The stage is set for your stories, but how do you know what to hold on to and what to let go? We will write/tell our stories in a safe space, planting the seeds and protecting them until we can share these stories on the other side. There will be another side, and you will tell stories from this time for the rest of your life. Use all this clay right now and we will put it on the pottery wheel of craft, shaping it slowly for the vessel yet to be revealed.
Beginners to advanced students are welcome at this powerful workshop combining vulnerability, storytelling, and stagecraft. If you're not afraid, do it! If you are afraid, then definitely do it. This is a no-risk, non-judgmental space to hone your unique voice. The world needs your voice! This workshop does not require you to bring in any materials or pre-writings. You will be encouraged to participate in all activities. If you decide to use your free time to create, great. If not, that's great too. You can still prepare yourself for stories, simply through the art of listening as well.

Course Fees: $180
This course is very reasonably priced for 12 hours of class-time, but I am open to payment in two installments as well.
Meet the Instructor
Jill Howe is the producer of Story Sessions, a showcase of true stories at venues from campfires, to bars, to City Winery, to our current home Sauce & Bread Kitchen (every first Friday). She has facilitated monthly storytelling groups for the last eight years, teaches Story Sessions cabin writing retreats, and presented a Tedx Talk focusing on vulnerability through storytelling. She has shared her stories at City Winery, Second City, Schubas, the 1871 Lab at the Merchandise Mart, Lincoln Hall, Stage 773, Park West, Wilmette Theatre, Skokie Theater, Uncommon Ground, The Gorton Center, and many more. She's been featured on NPR for Vocalo Radio, Tedx Naperville, the national Mortified podcast, the Chicagoist, The Reader, the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Now, Ignite Chicago, Fillet of Solo, Tellin' Tales Festival, Pygmallion Festival in Champaign/Urbana, Thread Literary Magazine, BP Hope Magazine, Women for Wellness podcast, and The Bughouse Debates at Newberry Library. With a Masters in Teaching, Jill has been a high school English teacher and is now is an educational specialist in Glencoe, focusing on reading and writing. Jill is also a resident storyteller at the Field Museum and loves a good animal story.
