Have you ever wondered what's really out there in the night sky? Wished you could zoom in on cosmic marvels? What if you had a handful of astronomers at your elbow, showing the way, answering your questions in plain language?
That's a Focus Night at Robert Ferguson Observatory! These are small groups so you get plenty of scope time, and a chance to focus on--
Fireballs! Streamers! Witness the Lyrid Meteor Shower, associated with one of the brightest stars in our sky. This shower can bring dazzling, fast-moving meteors -- some known to cast shadows for a split second and to leave smokey debris trails that last minutes. Learn about the history and origin of these meteors and how to spot them for yourself in the night sky. This April 21, let Robert Ferguson Observatory lure you to the Lyrids.
The program starts promptly at 9:00 PM. Afterward, we will move outdoors and settle in for the show. (The best observing position is lying down. Bring warm clothes, blankets, pads and/or folding lounge chairs.) We will have RFO's 40" reflector and 20" astrophotography scope open briefly after the presentation, but the main attraction is best seen with your eyeballs! The later you can stay, the better the viewing will be.
Sales are limited to 30 guests so we can provide a more personal experience.
$25.00 per adult and $20.00 for seniors (62+) and under 18.
RFO is operated by the Valley of the Moon Observatory Association, a 501(3)(c) nonprofit organization, and all of the proceeds will go towards maintaining this beloved Sonoma county institution.
