Nachyn Choreve (TUVA), Ahmad Yousefbeigi (Seattle/Kurdistan), Arrington de Dionyso (Olympia)
We are very lucky to be able to host Nachyn Choreve, visiting from the Republic of Tuva (part of Southern Siberia, governed by the Russian Federation). He is a master of traditional throatsinging, and also an excellent performer on igil and doshpuluur.
Nachyn will present a 30-40 minute set of more traditional Tuvan music, followed by group sessions with Arrington de Dionyso (also a throat-singer, based in Olympia, Washington) on voice, bass clarinet and other instruments, and Ahmad Yousefbeigi ("Kurdish Drum") a Seattle-based master of traditional Kurdish percussion instruments.
Ahmad will also present some traditional Kurdish songs.
PLEASE NOTE: because the studio is being used by another group until 8:30, this concert will begin PROMPTLY at 9pm. Attendees will not be able to enter until 8:30.

Nachyn Choreve was born in Tuva, a part of the Russian Federation. He is a soloist in the Tuvan State Philharmonic and founding member of Tuvan rock band Hartyga.
Nachyn stated touring as a professional musician at the age of 16.
Nachyn and his colleagues Salchak Orlan, Ondar Angyr-ool, Sergek Sandyk and Naiys Dulush enrolled in the Chyrgal-Ool Art College in Kyzyl in 2002. In the evenings and after their more traditional lessons, they got together and combined rock and jazz with Tuvan traditional music.
The group was initially called Iom, but later changed its name to Hartyga. As a member of Hartyga, Nachyn has collaborated with musicians throughout the world.
In January of 2020 he toured the United States as part of the Sounds of Siberia project together with Yakut khomus (jaw harp) master and throat singer Yuliyana Krivoshapkina. He is booking additional dates in the first week of March with Olympia's Arrington de Dionyso.

Ahmad Yousefbeigi is an inspired and sought-after Kurdish Iranian percussionist. Born in Sanandaj, Iran, his passion for rhythm was fostered by the musical nature of Kurdish community life and his brother's guidance. At the age of twelve he began formal study of Tonbak and Daf .
Since moving to Seattle in 1998, Ahmad has captivated audiences in the Pacific Northwest with the energetic, nomadic folk songs of his native Kurdistan and the delicate, lyrical rhythms of Persian classical music and poetry.
In 2003 Ahmad formed Kamand , a traditional Persian classical and Kurdish folk ensemble. In Kamand, he was the lead singer and percussionist. For 3 years2006, 2008 and 2009he produced, organized and performed with Kamand and other guest artists to create a 2 hour music and dance concert called Norooz a celebration commemorating the Iranian New Year and the first day of Springat Town Hall Seattle.
Ahmad's versatility, love of cultural exchange and collaboration has led him to perform with many musicians and bands outside of traditional Iranian and Kurdish music. His most recent acoustic, ambient, improvisational collaboration, YESOD , began in September 2010 with composer Bill Wolford. He is a current member of Middle-Eastern band, Shoruk. Ahmad is a former founding member of pan-Middle Eastern music ensemble, Mashriq. He has performed multiple times as a guest percussionist playing Daf with the Seattle Peace Choir in an interpretation of Seattle Peace Choir Mozart's Requiem. Ahmad is a former member of Sin Fronteras , a South American folk band in which he played Argentine Bombo, Arabic Darabuka and Charchas. He has also collaborated with many artists and dancers.
Performance highlights include appearances on Seattle Public Radio Stations KUOW and KBCS; on Big Night Out on the Seattle Channel; at Benaroya Hall; Seattle City Hall; Kirkland Performance Center; Bellevue Community College; South Seattle Community College; UW Meany Hall, and Classical Tuesdays in Old Town Tacoma. Ahmad has also performed with Kamand for Rick Steve's Iran: Yesterday and Today presentation.
He has performed and taught regularly at the Northwest Folklife Festival at the Seattle Center as well as Folklife in the School's K-12 music program. He has taught Kurdish folk songs and Daf at Mendocino Middle Eastern Music and Dance Camp. Ahmad teaches Daf, Tonbak, and Kurdish line dancing.
Ahmad has studied the Persian classical singing repertoire called Pish-Radif with Dr. Houssein Omoumi , master ney player. At Simon Shaheen's Arabic Music Retreat he was invited to join Simon Shaheen 's ensemble in a performance.

An uncompromising voice in contemporary music, Arrington de Dionyso (b. 1975 Chicago USA) integrates ancient soundmaking techniques with trans-modernist inquiries into the nature of consciousness. His propulsive improvisations utilize kargyraa voice combined with reed instruments (primarily bass clarinet, saxophone, and his invention the Bromiophone) as multiphonic tools in the navigation of liminal spaces between shamanic seance and rock and roll ecstasy.
While deeply rooted in the punk inclination to tear down musical standards in an effort for liberation, Arrington's music weds the iconoclasm of No-Wave Punk to the spiritual searching of Albert Ayler era Free Jazz along with more indigenous approaches to improvisation, reaching for an unveiling of primordially potent universalities. His compositions embrace sounds as colors, placing emphasis on the complimentary spectrums- from circular overtones whispered through bamboo flutes to the penetrating deep and guttural howls of amplified throatsinging- all with the lungs of an athlete.
Over the last 25 years he has founded many important experimental rock groups such as Old Time Relijun, Malaikat dan Singa, and the ecstatic protest-jazz band This Saxophone Kills Fascists. He has also performed alongside many great icons of contemporary music including collaborations with members of Deerhoof, the Master Musicians of Jajouka, Senyawa, Fugazi, Oh Sees and The Violent Femmes.
As a kind of "punk ethnomusicologist" Arrington circumvents academic approaches in favor of building direct cooperative relationships with diverse musical cultures, as an invited participant and active collaborator. His investigations of Jathilan trance music in Java, and collaborations with groups such as Senyawa, Karinding Attack, and HMM have brought him to the forefront of the Indonesian experimental music scene, and he has recently traveled to Morocco (Master Musicians of Jajouka) and Peru (instrument builder Dmitri Manga) to build similar connections linking the indigenous with the avant garde. In August of 2019 he traveled to The Republic of Tuva as the headlining "international" artist of the "Throatsinging in the Center of Asia Festival", performing at the National Theater of Kyzyl and collaborating with numerous local musicians and shamanic practitioners.
Whether as a band leader, solo performer, or in collaborative settings, Arrington's music evokes an "Ancient Future", sometimes shocking and hallucinatory, always aiming to channel Spirit.
