Emilio "Querreque" Hernández Valentín
Emilio Hernández Valentín was born in Santiago Tuxtla, Veracruz, Mexico. He started playing son jarocho music and the jarana at the age of 7, at a time when groups didnt have names. He played with the teachers José Palma "Cachurín", Isaac Quezada "Uncle Chaquiste", Juan Zapata, and Idelfonso Medel.
Emilio participated in the First Meeting of Jaraneros in Santiago Tuxtla, where the groups had to have a name to record. For the first time he performed with the group Los Chiquilines, but for that first meeting they were given the improvised name Río Crecido, after the place where the group formed. Emilio went on to perform and record with numerous projects including Son de Madera, Alaritangea, Cacametl, La Candela, Meztli, Ramita de Cedro, Relicario, and Tres Zapotes. Currently he performs in the show Quebranto, directed by dancer/choreographer Rubí Oseguera.
Emilio has performed on big stages at festivals across Mexico and the Carribean, including at the famed Cervantino Festival, Tajín Summit, Afrocaribeño Festival, Gabilondo Soler Cri Cri Festival, and the Agustín Lara Festival in Havana, Cuba. Emilio teaches jarana, zapateado and singing workshops in schools and communities. In addition to being an accomplished musician and teacher, Emilio has worked as a luthier for the past 25 years.

Emilio Hernández Valentín nació en Santiago Tuxtla, Veracruz. Comenzó a tocar la jarana a la edad de 7 años, en esa época los grupos no tenían un nombre. Tocó con los maestros José Palma "Cachurín", Isaac Quezada "tío Chaquiste", Juan Zapata e Idelfonso Medel. Participó en el I Encuentro de Jaraneros en Santiago Tuxtla, donde se les tenía que poner nombre a los grupos para tener un registro. Por primera vez participó con el grupo Los Chiquilines, pero para ese encuentro se le puso el nombre improvisado Río Crecido pues es el lugar donde se conformó el grupo. Fue uno de los primeros integrantes de Río Crecido, con ellos grabó dos discos "La tarima es un altar" y "El huerfanito".
Ha sido parte de grupos como La Candela, con quienes graba "El arrullo del son"; conformó el grupo Cacametl con niños de San Andrés Tuxtla y posteriormente formó el grupo Alaritangea y con ellos graba "Soy un niño de los Tuxtlas". Años después formó los grupos Tres Zapotes y Meztli y graba el disco "Que siga la tradición: sones y pascuas". Además ha participado como integrante en otros proyectos musicales, como Son de Madera, Ramita de Cedro, Relicario y actualmente participa en el espectáculo "Quebranto de Rubí Oseguera".
Se ha presentado en grandes escenarios de festivales como el Festival Cervantino, Cumbre Tajín, Festival Afrocaribeño, Festival Gabilondo Soler Cri Cri y el Festival Agustín Lara en La Habana, Cuba.
Emilio lleva años impartiendo talleres de jarana, zapateado y canto en escuelas y comunidades; además de ser músico es laudero desde hace 25 años.
