Back Again: ON THE BLOCK with Camille Tibaldeo and Don Arrington
BACK AGAIN: ON THE BLOCK is a musical revue that goes inside the minds of the wild and wacky denizens of one block in the East Village. These authentic characters, drawn on the actual residents of the East Village are from a bit ago when gentrification was just past the crawling stages, and the Mars Bar was still serving up hooch with fruit fly ice cubes. Ah, the good old days, when personalities too grand for the sidewalks walked these streets.

During the course of seventy minutes we meet: The Dogs, offering their opinion that "the block is going to the humans"; The Last Little Girl on the Block, with the homicidal Barbie Doll; The Junkie who bemoans that "it's tough to be a junkie: you've gotta give up a lot;" The Block Vigilante who maintains in "Right is Right and Wrong is Wrong" that "There's only one way to look at things and we will be the champs to put the fairies in the camps; in "Solo in the City" two lonely people, wonder if they should leave the safety of their solitary existences to take another shot at a relationship; The Homeless describe how life is "Living in a Cardboard Box;" and additional new material.

The eclectic musical styles of ON THE BLOCK include English music hall patter songs, military marches, blues, rock and pop, sometimes all at the same time, all with a liberal dash of Spike Jones insanity.

BACK AGAIN: ON THE BLOCK is written by Don Arrington; performed by the composer and Camille Tibaldeo, with musical accompaniment by Dionne McClain-Freeney and direction by Barbara Maier Gustern

"Blown away! I'm delighted this is back!" Susan Haskins-Doloff, Theater talk

Don Arrington: (Male Characters) has been a fixture of Downtown theater since the seventies, working as an actor and singer with Will Leach and John Braswell's ETC Company of LaMaMa and with John Vaccaro in the Playhouse of the Ridiculous at La MaMa and at Theater for the New City.  He has performed at numerous regional theatres and at The Delacorte Theater with The New York Shakespeare Festival and has appeared in the works of William M. Hoffman, Rosalyn Drexler, Liz Swados and Ken Bernard, among others. As a composer and playwright he has written scores of tunes and incidental music for Downtown theater, including Vaccaro's "Juba".  He is known, in addition to other works, for his musical, "Allegros!," musical revues "If This Ain't It!," "On the Block," dance theater piece, "Without Apparent Motive," and, with librettist Stephan Holt, the one woman opera, "I Love My Voice".  He is currently preparing for a  May 11, 2020 reading of his new full length play with music, "Cemetery Beach," at Theater for the New City.  He is very grateful for the collaboration of Camille and Dionne and the generous direction of the piece by Barbara Maier Gustern.

Camille Tibaldeo: (Female Character) performed in New York and on U.S. and European tours as a member of the ETC Company of La MaMa. She has appeared in regional theater and at NYC cabaret venues, and with Don Arrington in a number of his original musical theater pieces, among them previous incarnations of On the Block at Theater for the New City and at Pangea.

Barbara Maier Gustern: (Director) is a voice teacher, director, producer and performer.  As a voice teacher she is known for her work with some of down towns most illustrious stars - Debby Harry, Taylor Mac, Justin Vivian Bond, Diamanda Galas to name a few.  As a director of cabaret her shows with Austin Pendleton and Barbara Bleier are much loved at Pangea.  Her performance career runs from New York City Opera to musical theater, oratorio, supper clubs and cruises and anything else that paid the rent.  She was most recently vocal coach for the critically acclaimed Oklahoma in its Broadway revival.  She is delighted to be working with Don and Camille once again.

Dionne McClain-Freeney:  (Musical Director, Accompanist) is a composer, lyricist, arranger, and musical director, with numerous credits in musical theatre in New York, and elsewhere. A musical director at Middle Collegiate Church, in New York Citys East Village, Dionne is also a composer-lyricist in the BMI Lehman Engel Advanced Musical Theatre Workshop.
