MET: Werther (Massenet)
One of opera's greatest artists-Jonas Kaufmann appears together with Sophie Koch at the Met in Massenet's sublime adaptation of Goethe's revolutionary and tragic romance. It is directed and designed by Richard Eyre and Rob Howell, the same team that created the Met's recent hit production of Carmen. Rising young maestro Alain Altinoglu conducts.
French mezzo-soprano Sophie Koch will make her Met debut as Charlotte, replacing Elīna Garanča who is due to have her second child this winter, in all performances of the new staging of Werther, directed by Richard Eyre. She sang Charlotte opposite the Werther of her Met co-star, Jonas Kaufmann, at the Paris Opera in 2010 and at the Vienna State Opera in 2011.
