Ten Years Alive: Francesco Tristano / Byron Westbrook
Barcelona-based pianist Francesco Tristano had already established a formidable reputation as a classical performer when he broke new ground with the release Not for piano, containing his compositions as well as acclaimed piano versions of Detroit techno classics of 'Strings of life' and 'The bells'. Known for exploring new shapes of the piano recital including programs interpreted as a continuous playlist, or amplified through real-time processing Tristano performs solo tonight as part of Ten Years Alive on the Infinite Plain.
Brooklyn-based electronic composer Byron Westbrook presents a new work exploring drones in the form of high speed playback and fast interlocking pulses. Informed by the harmonic series, Westbrook uses multi-channel dispersion techniques that dynamically respond to the space in performance.
Ten Years Alive on the Infinite Plaina two-month festival celebrating ISSUE Project Room's 10th anniversary revisits seminal past projects and initiates new relationships with over 60 artists working across disciplines of sound, dance, performance, and literature. Presented as a series of 24 evenings of provocative double billings, Ten Years Alive blurs the boundaries between divergent disciplines and practices and celebrating the vibrancy of the Brooklyn experimental arts community.

Barcelona-based pianist and composer Francesco Tristano has caused a stir both in the club scene, and in classical concert venues internationally. Trained as a classical pianist at Juilliard, and having recorded a number of classical albums, Tristano broke new ground with 'Not for piano', the album that launched the French label inFine in 2007, containing his compositions as well as acclaimed piano versions of Detroit techno classics of 'Strings of life' and 'The bells'. Francesco teamed up with Detroit's own Carl Craig for a remix of 'The melody', and, subsequently, project Versus (featuring symphony orchestra and Moritz von Oswald) as well as the legendary Innerzone Orchestra (as pianist, keyboardist and arranger).
Byron Westbrook is an artist working with the dynamic quality of physical space through site-specific installations and unique listening formats to activate architecture and community. He has presented work at Clocktower Gallery, LMAK Projects, ISSUE Project Room, Diapason Gallery, ExitArt (NYC), ICA London, The LAB (San Francisco), VIVO MediaArtCenter (Vancouver), O' (Milan). He has been an artist in residence at Clocktower Gallery, Wassaic Project, Diapason Gallery, Hotel Pupik, and Institute of Intermedia. He has worked closely with composer/filmmaker Phill Niblock's Experimental Intermedia Foundation since 2005. He holds an MFA from the Milton Avery Graduate School of Arts at Bard College and lives and works in Brooklyn NY.
