Violence, including divinely-sanctioned violence, is not an incidental or peripheral feature in the Bible, and it cannot, nor should it, be glossed over. Depictions of such violence as we find them in the book of Joshua can be deeply disturbing to our modern sensitivities, as they contradict our desire for justice and peace for all.
