A brilliant German-Jewish writer and thinker teaching at The New School, Hannah Arendt covered the trial of Adolf Eichmann for the New Yorker and wrote a short book titled Eichmann in Jerusalem: A Report on the Banality of Evil. The attacks and counterattacks that followed still resonate, and the controversy cost Arendt several longstanding friendships. In his review in the New York Times, A. O. Scott called the film a "celebration of seriousness" that "turns ideas into the best kind of entertainment."
