WEBINAR: STOP the Walls and Ceilings From Coming Down in the Next Earthquake!

New Zealand is a geologically young country with many significant earthquakes in the last decade. In 2011 the Christchurch earthquake killed 185 people leading to a review of building practice and code, which were very similar to the U.S.

This presentation will provide an understanding of how walls and ceilings behave in large earthquakes, why historic requirements and practice is inadequate, and what can be done to make people centric areas more resilient.

1. Attendees will learn why having braces further apart than current practice makes sense.

2. Attendees will learn why wire as a brace is ineffective.

3. Attendees will learn how bracing of interior partition walls help prevent earthquake damage

4. Attendees will learn how bracing of suspended ceilings helps prevent earthquake damage

Bryce Hodgson is the President of Plenum Inc, the exclusive North American provider of solutions for bracing interior partition walls BRACELOK® and suspended ceilings GRIDLOK® for use in seismic areas.

These solutions were developed in New Zealand after the 2011 Christchurch earthquake, which killed 185 people.

They have been tested for both ICC and OSHPD certifications, and are now being deployed throughout the western United States.

Bryce will bring the experience of New Zealands code and practices, which are very similar to those of California, and describe what was learned, and how buildings in New Zealands Capital City, Wellington reacted, in 2016, when a larger 7.8 earthquake struck.
