At 2 am on January 1st, 1959, US-backed dictator Fulgencio Batista and his associates hurried onto a small plane & fled Cuba once and for all. They had realized their defeat by the revolutionary Rebel Army led by Fidel Castro was inevitable, & this became the first New Years Eve where the masses of Cuban people were able to celebrate the triumph of the Cuban Revolution. 60 years later, Cubans alongside people around the world celebrate the date & the incredible achievements of the Cuban Revolution that has inspired millions of people around the world to struggle for a better world, as well as looking forward to another year of great effort for peace, equality & social justice.
Since 2005, Vancouver Communities in Solidarity with Cuba has organized an annual Cuban New Years Eve celebration bringing together hundreds of people to celebrate. This year will be marking 60 years of the Cuban Revolution! Come enjoy delicious food, drinks, live music, a salsa dance lesson, & dancing all night! Open to families and people of all ages.
Venue is wheelchair accessible.
We wish to acknowledge that this event will take place on the unceded Central Coast Salish territories of the Qay'qayt and Musqueam First Nations.

A las 2 de la madrugada del 1 de enero de 1959, el dictador respaldado por Estados Unidos, Fulgencio Batista y sus asociados se apresuraron a abordar un pequeño avión y huyeron de Cuba de una vez por todas. Habían comprendido que su derrota por parte del Ejército Rebelde Revolucionario liderado por Fidel Castro era inevitable, y esto se convirtió en la primera vispera de año nuevo en la que las masas cubanas pudieron celebrar el triunfo de la revolución cubana. 60 años después, cubanos junto a personas de todo el mundo celebran la fecha y los increíbles logros de la revolución cubana que han inspirado a millones de personas en todo el mundo a luchar por un mundo mejor, y esperamos otro año de gran esfuerzo por la paz, igualdad y justicia social.
Desde 2005, las Comunidades de Vancouver en Solidaridad con Cuba han organizado una celebración anual de la víspera del Año Nuevo que reúne a cientos de personas para celebrar. ¡Este año se cumplen 60 años de la Revolución Cubana! ¡Ven a disfrutar de deliciosa comida, bebidas, música en vivo, una lección de salsa, y baile toda la noche! Abierto para familias y personas de todas las edades.
El lugar es accesible en silla de ruedas.
Deseamos reconocer que este evento se realizará en los territorios no cedidos de las Primeras Naciones de Qay'qayt y Musqueam.
