Astro Rys' "Jesus" Film Erie Premiere + Music
Astro Rys' "Jesus" Film Erie Premiere + Music
It's finally here, the next exciting film project from DIY punk filmmaker Astro (Jack) Rys: "Jesus". The film was made by Astro in their final semester at NYU as their thesis film, the culmination of all of their academic career. The film could be called many things, avant garde, performance art, biopic, and documentary all at once and not be wrong. Without discussing the film too much, Jesus is an expressionistic self portrait of the artist and an exploration of abuse, trauma, and suicide through the eyes of real life monster of days gone by, the infamous GG Allin. This film is not about Allin, however, but rather utilizes Allin's final day of life to explore the most unturned and destructive part of the subconscious that most are afraid to look at. This film utilizes various mediums such as dance, animation, poetry, collage, and interview to explore these ideas as well as having key members and places with the Brooklyn DIY and underground involved in the filmmaking, especially the now long gone Glove (RIP).
As with all Thee Films premiere and screening events, musical artists will be performing before the screening, so you definitly will want to be there early.

While not explicitly shown, the topics are discussed and implied. The film also contains a graphic scene of self harm. Please keep this in mind when viewing the film to either prepare or choose to view certain scenes. If any of these are triggering, talk to Astro to help you avoid these scenes.
