WCT presents Jazz Masters Series: Willie Martinez Latin Jazz Quartet
Westchester Collaborative Theater (WCT) continues its Jazz Masters music series with the Willie Martinez Latin Jazz Quartet featuring Martinez an accomplished drummer and vocalist. Joining Martinez will be Nicki Denner on piano/vocals, Bernie Minoso on bass and Anton Denner on reeds and flute. The band will perform two sets at 7:30 and 9 pm at WCT, 23 Water Street in Ossining.

Willie Martinez has been a familiar face in New York Citys eclectic music scene for well over thirty years.  As well as being one of the most sought after drummers on the Latin Jazz scene today, Willie is also a prolific arranger and composer.  He is a master percussionist with yet another secret weapon: Willie is also a highly gifted vocalist.
Willie's considerable rhythmic and vocal talents have been featured with groups performing everything from Gothic Funk at the quintessentially New York rock club CBGBs to Afro Cuban jazz on the venerable stage of the Isaac Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall.  He has performed and recorded with artists as varied as the classic Cuban arranger, composer, and bandleader Chico OFarrill, legendary jazz trombonist Benny Powell and contemporary Pop divas Jewel and Faith Hill.
His performances have been documented sharing the stage with a wide variety of artists representing a Whos Who in the American music industry, including Latin legends Bebo Valdes, Ray Santos and Hilton Ruíz; jazz greats Steve Turre, Mulgrew Miller and George Cables; and pop veterans Leon Pendarvis and Barry Eastmond.

Pianist/composer Nicki Denner has worked with Sheila E., Savion Glover, Michele Lee, Doc Severinsen as well other jazz and Latin artists in the United States, Asia, Europe and Latin America. Ms. Denner has released three critically acclaimed CDs under her own name. She is the Musical Director for the group Cocomama whose debut CD Quiero was included in the 2016 Grammy pre-nominations for Best Tropical Latin album.

Bernie Minoso started in music at the age of 11 years. Trombone was his first instrument and he was a member of boro-wide and city-wide ensembles during his junior and high school years.  He switched to bass at the age of 21 and quickly started performing with local and touring bands.

His defining moment came when he joined the group of world-renowned Cuban percussionist Mongo Santamaria.  He later became a member of the musical cast of Paul Simons Broadway musical Capeman.  In 1998 he joined the Tito Puente Orchestra, traveling and performing with him until his passing in the year 2000. Since then, Bernie remains one of the most in demand bassists on the Latin and Latin Jazz scenes.

Born in New York City in 1961, Anton Denner began playing the saxophone in 1974.  After early studies with Lee Konitz and Joe Lovano, he began to freelance in the New York area in the early '80's, performing at The Village Gate, Visiones, The 55 Bar, Birdland, and many other venues.

Anton has recorded and  played alongside many of jazz musics greatest artists, such as Ray Charles, Rosemary Clooney, Clifford Jordan, Mel Lewis, Al Foster, Norman Simmons, Brad Meldau, Bill Carrothers, Larry Goldings, Terell Stafford, Dave Stryker, and Bill Stewart, to name only a few.  Anton has also been a featured soloist at The Napa Valley Jazz Festival, the Istanbul Jazz Festival (with the NY Jazz Giants) and the LaVillete Festival in France (with the Bill Carrothers Trio).
