Northwind Arts Center welcomes RONA: the touring duo of Whidbey Islands Timothy Hull and Amsterdam-based Margot Merah, Friday, November 8 at 7:00pm. Series sponsors are Peninsula Hearing and Strait Floors. Media sponsor for this series is KPTZ-FM radio.
RONA is Timothy Hull from Whidbey Island and Margot Merah from b. They bring a lovely mix of traditionals and new folk songs, intricate harmonies and strong but tender guitar lines.
Margot and Timothy met even before they'd actually met. Timothy's songs traveled across the Atlantic making it to an Irish session in Amsterdam, where Margot first heard them. And Margot's album Daughters, with her duo The Lasses, came into Timothy's house via their mutual friend Kathryn Claire(appearing December 13 at Northwind). So when the two songwriters stood face to face for the first time on Whidbey Island in the spring of 2015, introductions were hardly necessary.
Both Timothy and Margot have a love for folk music, for songs that tell a story, for old as well as modern folk. As a duo they bring a variety of old songs and new ones, covers and originals, up-tempo and ballads. Two voices that blend beautifully, strong but subtle guitars, harmonica and a shruti box(like a harmonium) make for an atmospheric concert. A new feature of the Northwind Songs series is access to food and drink during concert intermissions from Tommyknockers, right next door.
Tickets are $20 each at Northwind Arts Center, RONAnorthwind.brownpapertickets.com or at the door.
