Producing and Marketing your Solo Show
.

I WANT TO DO A (long or short) RUN OF MY SOLO SHOW.
Where do I do first?
----------------------------------------
instructor:  Bruce Pachtman

You've written a solo show. You've performed it in local venues. Even beyond. You've gotten a lot of encouragement. Your dream now, is to do a run of your show. You're just not sure where/how to begin. After producing solo shows in the Bay Area for the past 20 years, I have some ideas.
The Bay Area is (arguably), the best place in the nation to create and perform a solo show. Not only are we fortunate to have excellent teachers and directors but also a supportive solo performance community, theaters that are perfect for solo performance and an audience that is both abundant and enthusiastic. That's a whole lot of pluses.

WHAT WE'LL COVER:
Over the course of two+ hours, I will focus on three essential elements of promoting your show: creating high quality visual materials (photo, poster, cards, website), writing an effective press release and selecting a title that'll catch peoples attention. These choices can make a big difference.
Once you've signed up for the class I will send you a questionnaire about your background, desires and goals. I will also give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

ABOUT ME: (Bruce Pachtman)
Though I have produced, publicized and marketed a wide variety of performing arts over the past 20 years, it's solo shows that I am most drawn to. In 1998, I wrote and performed a one man show titled, " dont make me look too psychotic." Scheduled to run for six weeks, it continued on for 300 performances in San Francisco, LA, and Philadelphia. As a result, people approached me for help with their shows. My clients include: Mark Kenward ("The Dharma of Dollars"), Wayne Harris ("May Day Parade"), Kenny Yun ("Lettucetown Lies"), Rebecca Fisher ("The Magnificence of the Disaster"), and Irma Herrera ("Why Would I Mispronounce My Own Name?") I also produced and publicized W. Kamau Bell's solo show, "The W. Kamau Bell Curve: ending racism in about an hour" which drew a great deal of attention and lead to a TV series titled, "Totally Biased". The show was produced by Chris Rock. Kamau is currently in his fifth season of hosting and producing,  CNN's "United Shades of America" which just won its third Emmy Award. Along with Ty McKenzie, I produce the Solo Sundays solo performance series at Stage Werx Theatre in The Mission. The series is now in its tenth year.
