Box Tie (Gote Shibari) Workshop w/ Seattle Shibari
The gote shibari / takatekote shibari is the most iconic tie of Japanese-style rope bondage. It's beautiful, intricate, highly versatile, and is reliably used in both floor & suspension bondage. Come explore it with us! In this two-hour workshop, we'll learn & refine several different variations for creating this bondage tie, focusing on:
-precise rope positioning -proper rope tension -different types of frictions -kannuki variations -reinforcing the 'stem' -various suspension line tie-ins
We'll also examine anatomy, safety, and consent associated with rope bondage, and learn tips & tricks for tying fluidly. Finally, we'll take a look at some of the possibilities around 'using up' the remaining rope in decorative ways (kazari).
Class Prerequisites:
Students tying should be familiar with basic rope bondage techniques, be able to consistently tie a non-collapsing single column tie, and be capable of communicating well during tying with their partner.
Students being tied should be comfortable in a restraining tie that places the hands behind the back for extended periods of time, and be capable of communicating well during tying with their partner.
This workshop is appropriate for all genders, sexual orientations, and body types.
Please bring: (3-4) 8 meter to 30 ropes, 5-6mm in diameter. Hemp or Jute is recommended. Its also helpful to have some shorter lengths of rope in your kit. Short on rope? Well have a bit extra on hand to loan out to students.
To ensure personal attention to each participant, class size will be limited to 8 tying pairs. Due to the small class size, early registration is recommended.
