Pawn Shop Soul Debut Party

Santa Cruz's newest soul band is coming out in style. After four months of feverish rehearsal, Pawn Shop Soul is ready to show what its got in this debut performance. You will be bouncing in your seat to soul, funk, and Latin tunes you may be hearing for the first time but your body understands immediately. Come experience a different dimension of soul music and support the launch of Pawn Shop Soul.

Newly formed in May of this year, Pawn Shop Soul is making rapid progress to sharing the stage with other great bands in the local soul scene. Founded by veteran soul, funk, and jazz musicians, Pawn Shop Soul is on a mission to bring back live performance of instrumentals in the tradition of Stax, Volt, and Chess. The set includes choice tunes from the Booker T and the MGs, the Bar-Kays, Clarence Wheeler and Mongo Santamaria. Pawn Shop Soul cooks up a stew from jazz, funk, and Latin influenced music that satisfies body and soul.

Weighing in at nine members, Pawn Shop Soul presents a powerful four-piece horn line locked in with a five-piece rhythm section, Hammond organ, guitar, bass, traps and conga. An orchestra of soul all by itself, the Hammond organ both sustains the groove and soars above it. The Pawn Shop Horns supply plenty of punch with two trumpets and tenor and bari saxophones.
