Benny Green Trio at A Place For Jazz
Benny Green was born in New York City. He grew up in Berkeley, California, and studied classical piano from the age of seven. He attended Berkeley High School and participated in the school's jazz ensemble. In the later years of his high school career, he had a weekly trio gig at Yoshi's, which marked his entrance to the world of professional jazz. After high school he spent time in San Francisco, but became more successful on his return to New York.
Green joined Betty Carter's band in April, 1983, and since 1991 he has led his own trio. He has recorded for Blue Note Records, Telarc, and Criss Cross Jazz. He frequently teaches in workshops across the United States, such as Jazz Camp West in California, and Centrum/Jazz Port Townsend in Washington. He tours globally with the Benny Green Trio. His 2018 studio album release Then and Now is available from Sunnyside Records.

Bassist David Wong was born and raised in New York City, and is a graduate of the LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and the Performing Arts, where he developed his passion for music under the tutelage of tuba master Bob Stewart. He graduated from the Juilliard School in classical music in 2004 and has studied with Orin OBrien (New York Philharmonic), Ron Carter, Ben Wolfe, and John Clayton.
From 2003 to 2004, as part of the Eric Reed Trio, Wong performed in Switzerland, Scotland, the Hollywood Bowl (Los Angeles), the Algonquin Hotel (New York City), and with Jazz at Lincoln Center, as well as at many other venues worldwide. He is currently a member of Roy Haynes Fountain of Youth band, which has toured throughout the United States, Europe, and Japan, as well as bassist with the Heath Brothers quartet, led by jazz legends Jimmy and Albert Tootie Heath. Wong can also be seen performing with the exciting new singer Sachal Vasandani and the amazing pianist Jeb Patton.
Wong has recorded with Benny Green, Dan Nimmer, Jeb Patton, and Albert Tootie Heath, and he is featured on a brand new release from Vasandani, Eyes Wide Open. He has performed with Clark Terry, Illinois Jacquet, Wynton Marsalis, Christian McBride, Walter Blanding, Marcus Printup, Leroy Jenkins, David Hazeltine, Jim Rotondi, Carla Cook, Paula West, and Mark Gould (Metropolitan Opera), to name just a few.

Aaron Kimmel from Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, is a graduate of Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School. Starting at an early age, he performed with Maynard Ferguson and his Big Bop Nouveau band at the age of 6 and with the Glenn Miller Orchestra at the age of 9. Aaron was taught by his late father, Stephen, and also by Jim Chapin, Ed Shaughnessy, and Joe Morello. While in high school, Aaron received the Outstanding Jazz Soloist award from Downbeat Magazines Student Music Awards two times. Aaron is a Bachelor of Music graduate from The Juilliard School, where he studied with Kenny Washington and Billy Drummond. Since arriving in New York, he has had the honor of playing with such jazz luminaries as Benny Golson, Ken Peplowski, Harry Allen, Grant Stewart, Joe Magnarelli, Ryan Kisor, Jerry Weldon, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Lew Tabackin, Eric Reed, Brian Lynch, Bill Pierce, Robin Eubanks, Ann Hampton Callaway, Benny Green, Mike LeDonne, Peter Zak, Frank Wess, and Hilary Kole.
