Wheaton 10-Minute Play Festival
WHEATON 10-MINUTE PLAY FESTIVAL

Is an opportunity for artists, actors and writers to present a 10-minute script that focuses on the theme "Relationships." Sixteen plays from individuals representing culturally diverse backgrounds will be presented.

Performances will take place on November 9th and 10th from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Hughes United Methodist Church, 10700 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD.

The November 9th and 10th performances are free and open to the public. Please register to attend the performances at this site.

SYNOPSIS OF PLAYS:

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 9TH (4:00  6:00 p.m.)

CHESS & THE MIDDLE EAST - By: Martha Patterson  
Over a chess game, an Arab and a Jew discuss the Middle East conflict.

DRAMA SHOULD STAY ON THE STAGE - By: Lavinia Roberts
As the director of The Drama Club, no nonsense Lynn is dedicated to keeping drama on the stage. Sadly, for Lynn,  leading lady Kate, is the queen of drama onstage and off.  Even though Kate is cast as the lead in Little Red Riding Hood, she still wants to play all the other roles, from granny to the wolf.  

FINDING HELP - By: Marj ONeill-Butler
Daphne and her Mother are at loggerheads concerning assisted living or a caregiver. When Daphne tries to solve the problem; she is surprised by her Mother's attitude.

JUST YOU AND ME, BABY - By: Edwina Britt
A couple learns to appreciate each other again after becoming empty nesters.

ITS JUST A GAME - By: Denise Sanchez
Two couples are playing spades  and Donna becomes upset because she is losing. Then a conversation ensues; she reveals that growing up her mother was verbally abusive.

R IS FOR RAINBOW - By: Elizabeth Gordon
On a rain-soaked day outside the local library, a bookworm waiting for the weather to change encounters a charming stranger with a heavy secret.

THE LIFE OF TREES - By: Peter Snoad
A man whose estranged brother is dying learns a lesson about love and loyalty from his tree-hugging seven-year-old daughter.

THE PRICE OF FREEDOM - By: Debra Cole
The death of Alberts wife was the final straw for his children. It was time to liquidate the household belongings and move Albert into an assisted living facility. The estate sale is the final step before Albert starts his new life.

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 10th (4:00  6:00 p.m.)

BRAVE BLOOD - By: Rich Rubin
The time, 1942; the place, Washington, DC.  When the American Red Cross decides to segregate the military's blood supply based on race, Dr. Charles R. Drew -- the nation's foremost expert on blood banking -- points out the illogic and stands up for what's right.

CLAXSTON AND DEXTERS SAVORY SAUCE - By: Archie Williams and Tyrone Chapman
Two men develop an incredible BBQ Sauce and after competing against each decide to become partners.  After difficulties with the Food and Drug Administration, they decide to sell the business to an unsuspecting buyer.  

DO I LOOK LIKE A BAD DREAM? - By: Suzanne Bailie
Getting stuck in a bad dream trap was the last thing Raton Pérez (a figure popular in Spanish and Hispanic American culture) thought would happen when volunteering to help Tooth Fairy.  Tooth Fairy and Raton must now overcome binds of love, being out of gin and Raton's need to tinkle to stay on the nights tight schedule.

GROOMZILLA - By: Shirley King
Wedding plans transform Thomas (the groom) into Groomzilla. He then has to win his bride (Emily back), but what about his parents?

LOST BOYS - By: John Becker
Lost Boys is loosely based on a true story, in which one of the former Lost Boys of Sudan is struggling to find a job in America. Being new to driving a car, he gets into two accidents within 20 minutes on his way to his first job interview. The second accident happens to be with the white man who's supposed to be interviewing him.

THANK YOU TWO - By: John Minigan
On their last night working in the booth together, junior sound guy Danny tries to work up the nerve to tell senior light girl Mia how he feels.

THE BENCH - By: Romney Humphrey
Two strangers, both social isolates, discover that a specific bench in the park holds special memories and is a source of comfort for each of them. As they compete for ownership, a park worker helps resolve their priorities.

THE NIGHT SKY - By: Eugenie Carabatsos
The Stars in the sky generally feel unappreciated because there is so much light in the world until one day there is a city wide black out in New York.
