The Performers:

Violinist MaeLynn Arnold is currently the concertmaster of the Cape Cod Chamber Orchestra. She began studying the violin at the age of six under the instruction of her mother. She went on to study at the Oberlin Conservatory with Marilyn McDonald at the age of ten, and made her debut that same year as a soloist with the Northern Ohio Youth Orchestra. Ms. Arnold was the first place winner of the 2010 Tuesday Musical Scholarship Competition in Akron, OH, and has performed as soloist with the Lakeland Civic Orchestra and the Toledo Symphony.

Ms. Arnold received both her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in violin performance from Boston University, and spent a semester of her undergraduate program abroad at the Royal College of Music in London. A sought after orchestral musician, she performs with the Boston Pops, Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Odyssey Opera, Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, the Indianapolis Symphony, Orchestra of Indian Hill, Marsh Chapel Collegium, Lexington Symphony, and Cantata Singers. Ms. Arnold has spent summers performing at the Spoleto Festival USA, the Lucerne Festival Academy, Kent Blossom Music Festival, and has served on the faculty of the Duxbury Music Festival Preparatory Division, and the Youth and Music Festival at the Boston Conservatory. In April 2009, she toured in Germany with the Internationale Junge Orchester Akademie, and was recently on tour to Japan with the Boston Chamber Orchestra.

MaeLynn is first violinist and a founding member of the Denovo Quartet, in residence at Somerville High School for the 2017-2018 season through the Boston Chamber Music Society. The quartet frequently performs on recital series in the greater Boston area and collaborates regularly with local musicians and composers.

Ms. Arnold is a certified Suzuki instructor and has served on the faculty at Winchester Community Music School, South Shore Conservatory, and Aurora School of Music in Ohio. Ms. Arnold is an established private instructor in Arlington where she resides with her husband and two children.

Violinist Janny Joo is a multifaceted musician who is equally at home in chamber, orchestra, and solo recital settings. She is the founding member of the Meadowlark Piano Trio, a recent semi-finalist of the Fischoff International Chamber Music Competition, and enjoys performing works from the established repertoire as well as championing works from contemporary composers with the trio.

An active chamber musician, Janny has studied chamber music with members of the Chiara, Muir, and St. Lawrence String Quartets as well as the Triple Helix Piano Trio. She has also performed with such artists as Bayla Keyes, Cho-Liang Lin, Kim Kashkashian, Hsin-Yun Huang, Desmond Hoebig, Rhonda Rider, William Fitzpatrick, and Norman Fischer.

She has served as the concertmaster of numerous orchestras, which includes Symphony Nova in recent years, and she currently holds the Assistant Principal 2nd Violin chair of the Cape Symphony. She also plays professionally with Symphony New Hampshire, Phoenix, and Unitas, and guests with Boston Ballet and Cantata Singers.

Recently, she has been branching out and exploring the baroque style while playing with the Harvard Baroque Chamber Orchestra.

Janny is passionate about teaching and coaching the next generation of musicians, and teaches violin as well as theory classes at the Boston University where she received her Doctorate degree in Violin Performance. She received her M.M degree from Shepherd school of music at Rice University and her B.A degree with minors in Math and History from University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Believing that an artist is also a citizen who has a duty to further social justice, she is serving as a fellow for the Music for Food organization, which is a musician-lead initiative for local hunger relief. She will be performing with the artists in the organization as well as promoting the organization's mission in various other ways to benefit local food pantries around the greater Boston area.

Her primary teachers include Bayla Keyes, Cho-Liang Lin, Hye-Yung Yoon of the Chiara String Quartet, and Hal Grossman.

In her free time, she enjoys ballroom dancing, horseback riding, traveling, and photography.
