Playful Mindfulness 2: The Joy of Expanding Awareness
Combining mindfulness--paying attention to the present moment with curiosity and kindness--with the practices of improvisational theatre helps us meet each of life's moments with confidence, calm, and connection. We contribute more joyfully and respond more artfully. Life gets better.
Why Playful Mindfulness 2?
In Intro to Playful Mindfulness, you learned to play attention with traditional, evidence-based mindfulness exercises and with games and activities drawn from the world of improvisational theatre.
This course extends and deepens mindfulness practice into arenas of greater complexity and challenge: the meta process of witnessing thoughts and feelings, creativity and shared control, connected presence, exploring difficulty and building resilience, and the power of positivity and looking for the good.
Learning modes will again include formal mindfulness practices, informal practices for daily life, shared inquiry that uses safe small and large discussions to draw wisdom from the whole groupand, of course, improvisational theatre.
Prerequisite: Playful Mindfulness (through Stanford Continuing Studies or independently through ANIMA Learning) or permission of the instructor. See https://playfulmindfulness12019.bpt.me/ to sign up for the Playful Mindfulness 1 course that will lead into this course.
Though this class is not graded, students are expected to commit to at least twenty minutes of daily practice at home for the duration of the course.
