From scene founding father to ringleader and flag-bearer of the Pure Trance movement, Solarstone (producer, composer & DJ Richard Mowatt) enduring influence stretches back almost as far as the genre itself.
Releases like Solarcoaster, The Calling and Seven Cities are all benchmark classics of its pre-millennial period. The latter track among the first of the Balearic trance anthems - has been re-released 3 times, and now sold in excess of million copies. Remixed by Armin van Buuren amongst others, its instantly recognizable sunset/sunrise-sound legacy is still heard in tracks today. With the albums Anthology One RainStarsEternal, Touchstone, Pure and most recently the cryptically titled . - - - - , hes also released a quintet of critically revered longplayers.
Solarstone has long brought his sound to some of the most famous clubs, arenas and festivals on the planet. In Europe, those have come to include Tomorrowland, Cream Ibiza, A State Of Trance & Global Gathering, whilst further afield hes rocked TomorrowWorld, Stereosonic, FSOE and numerous others.
Having championed trances true nature from his very first release, the last 5 years have seen Solarstone push its origin sound - almost singlehandedly - back to the top of the genres agenda. Through his gospel of #PureTrance - modernizing the genres heart, whilst ring-fencing its soul - he caught the disposition of the scene with zeitgeist timing. Within its first year, Solarstones ideology of Pure Trance had developed into a bona fide musical movement. Its one which has been captured by a major a mix-compilation series, worldwide Pure Trance club and festival shows, the Pure Trance and Pure Progressive record labels & its weekly radio show.
Forerunners
Pure Progressive/Silver Lining
Brenden LaBonte a.k.a. Forerunners has released a steady stream of immersive and unique tracks over the past 8 years, with remixes and originals on various Solarstone labels, Sudbeat, Suffused, Saturate Audio, Silk Music, Perfecto, and others. Something of an enigma as an artist, this Arizona based producer is definitely in the quality over quantity camp. Forerunners music is about the slow build, the journey, where filters ebb and flow, layers creep to the front then withdraw, where the percussion is hypnotic and the synths repetitive, and the melody draws the listener in with its subtlety, rather than a crass fanfare. Its either early night material for trance rooms, or peak time material for intelligent progressive floors spun by DJs who know how to work a room. This is what progressive music is all about.
MarQ
Pure Progressive/NATA/The Underground
One of the most influential people in the US Trance scene. Not only a top DJ, MarQ is responsible for Seattle's premier trance club The Underground & the founder of Seattle Trance Alliance & its two offshoot brands, Phoenix Trance Alliance and the new North American Trance Alliance. MarQs influence on the US trance scene can be felt all over the west coast.
Working in the music/nightlife industry since 16, MarQ has over 28 years experience performing in clubs. In 2004 MarQ expanded into Promoting events in the Seattle area with his company Phase 3 Events and was responsible for popular series events like Whiteout, Blackout, Kandyland, Mayhem, Kiss My Bass, and more. In March 2016 MarQ opened The Underground and changed the game for Seattle nightlife. Since the club has hosted some of the best names in Trance including a surprise guest appearance & set by Markus Schulz. Countless DJs have called The Underground one of the favorite clubs they have ever played.
With releases on Pure Progressive, Discover Dark, Kill The Lights, & Televisionary among others, MarQ is an accomplished producer as well. His Podcast Electric dawn is now over 75 episodes with over 300,000 plays.
With big plans for the future, you can expect to see a lot from STA, PTA, NATA, The Underground & DJ MarQ.
