You Know Me
These true life stories chronicle six personal experiences with abortion and explore the nature of choice. In a proclamation of "We will not go back," these women boldly share ways safe access to this procedure has shaped, and saved, their lives, with some speaking out for the very first time. Often viewed as a negative, shameful event in a woman's life, these storytellers pull back the curtain to reveal the true conflict, joy, heartbreak, and the peace they have found in the wake of their decision.
"The incredible thing about theater like this is that it gives a voice back to people who have been silenced," says director Tara Wolfe. "That's something were talking about a lot in this show, how silence can destroy us. There's a victory in speaking out, and seeing these women own their experiences and share them with a room of strangers has been breathtaking. And the immediacy of it, the fact that this is an issue were facing right now in our world makes it that much more meaningful. Its like being a part of history."
The Mercury Cafe is located at 2199 California St. Denver. Price of admission is $8 online and $10 at the door. All proceeds from this one-night-only event will go to the ACLU to support their lawsuit against Ohio legislators.
