The Portable Folk Festival

It's safe to say that no one has played The Sounding Board more often than the Portable Folk Festival. Founded in 1974 by the Sounding Board's original impresario,Bill Domler, the band consists of Sounding Board volunteers and stalwarts who have frequented the place since its inception. Expect traditional and contemporary folk, a bit of bluegrass, fiddle tunes, and who knows what else they will pull from their eclectic repertoire.

Members of the group have come and gone and sometimes come again over the years. Today's Portable Folk Festival is comprised of about a dozen or so musicians and singers, and each bring something special to the performance. Many members have been with the group for more than 40 years.

This will be an all-cover show with each group member giving their own twist to one or more songs from their favorite performers or a traditional tune. You'll hear traditional and contemporary songs, fiddle tunes, a bit of old-timey country, some novelty melodies, a few surprises, and who knows what else. It's performed to the accompaniment of guitar, banjo, penny whistle, fiddle, accordion, dobro, and even a tuba and bassoon. Bring your singing voice because every song has a chorus and you're more than welcome to join in.

It's the closing celebration of The Sounding Board's 46th season and a great way to cap off another year of music. We'll be ready to welcome you at the door
