Investigating Mental Health Narratives Through Song
A workshop presentation of ensemble devised original songs on the topic of borderline personality disorder (BPD) and anxiety disorders. Recognizing the lack of empowering and realistic media representations of what it is like to live with an impairing mental illness, AJ Newman and I (Ray Johnson) chose to use our honors senior thesis to try and put versions of those experiences into song. Leading an ensemble through individual character development, 5 songs were created, each designated to one character's experience with either BPD or an anxiety disorder. This presentation will showcase the work so far.
