Brookdale School Spring 2019 Enrichment
Harry Potter STEM with Montclair Learning Center
Calling all muggles to the Wonderful World of Wizardry! Design and build your own blinking magic wand, build a catapult to launch snitches, mix up potions, and engineer spider webs when Hogwarts comes to Brookdale!
Who: Grades K-2 When: Tuesdays, 3:30-4:30pm Cost: $80 per child (limit 10 students)
Dates: April 16 & 30 and May 7, 14, 21, & 28.
Machine Sewing with Modern Maker
Lets learn to machine sew! Students will learn to use a sewing machine, trace patterns, cut fabric, apply trimmings, and other skills necessary to construct basic sewing projects. Every student moves at her/his own pace and applies her/his own
CREATIVITY to each project. Sample projects include phone cases, stuffed animals,and simple garments (like shorts and t-shirts) No experience necessary! Supply fees included in class price to cover machine use, thread, fabrics, trims & notions.*Note: this class skips meeting on 5/7 and extends to 6/4.

WEDNESDAYS
Hand Sewing for Little Kids at Brookdale Elementary School
Lets learn the basic concepts of hand sewing through creative decorative projectsfrom simple embroidery to hand-crafted stuffed animals and useful accessories.Children will become skilled at threading needles, tracing and cutting patterns, and
stitching their own designs! Projects include: banner flags, coin purse, embroidery wall art, stuffed animals, and other fun ideas! Supply fees included in class price to cover cost of threads, flosses, fabrics, felts, hoops, and needles.
*Note: this class skips meeting on 5/8 and extends to 6/5.

Intro to Art
Students will be introduced to various art techniques including watercolor, acrylic paints, colored pencil and pastel. A different project will be completed each week.

Dates: April 17 and May 1, 8, 15, 22, & 29.
Yoga and Mindfulness with Ms. Rodgers
This class will help encourage and enhance mindfulness practice and engage in yoga with the intention to promote compassion, attention, adaptability, and resilience. This six-week session will walk your child through the importance of breathing, yoga positions, stretching, and tactics to live a more stress-free life!
*Bring a towel or yoga mat for comfort. In warmer weather, class will take place outdoors.

THURSDAYS
Mixed Media Art with Lovlee Studios
During this session, students will create Mixed Media works of Art using recycled, repurposed, natural, and textured elements combined with traditional paints and crafting materials.
Who: Grades 3-6 When: Thursdays, 3:30-4:30pm Cost: $85 per child (materials fee included)
Dates: April 18 and May 2, 9, 16, 23, & 30.
Star Wars STEM with Montclair Learning Center
This interactive class gets kids engaged in Science Technology Engineering and Math through a fun and exciting Star Wars theme. Over the six weeks students will experience engineering to build a droid and pieces of the Star Wars galaxy, use coding to help a droid pick up scrap metal on Tatooine, get a chance to race droid robots/build with Legos, and engage in science experiments including galaxy slime and launching rockets.
Who: Grades 3-6 When: Tuesdays, 3:30-4:30pm Cost: $80 per child.
Dates: April 18 and May 2, 9, 16, 23, & 30.
Class sizes will be limited to 15 children (except where otherwise noted) and space will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Note that we may cancel classes if there is insufficient interest.
